ABOUT LASEK IN TURKEY

.
LASEK (LASER-ASSISTED SUBEPITHELIAL KERATECTOMY) INVOLVES LIFTING THE THIN OUTER LAYER OF THE CORNEA (EPITHELIUM) BEFORE RESHAPING THE UNDERLYING CORNEAL TISSUE WITH A LASER. THE EPITHELIUM IS LATER REPLACED. THIS TECHNIQUE IS A VARIATION OF PRK (PHOTOREFRACTIVE KERATECTOMY) AND IS DIFFERENT FROM THE LASIK, WHICH INVOLVES CREATING A CORNEAL FLAP. EPI-LASIK IS A SIMILAR PROCEDURE TO LASEK WHERE THE EPITHELIUM IS PRESERVED AND THEN REPLACED AFTER LASER TREATMENT. WHILE LASEK AND PRK ARE SUITABLE FOR PATIENTS WITH THINNER CORNEAS OR OTHER CORNEAL IRREGULARITIES, LASIK IS GENERALLY PREFERRED FOR PATIENTS WITH THICKER CORNEAS.

.
SUITABLE PATIENTS FOR LASEK

For lasek laser eye surgery in Turkey hospitals apart from improving the person visions, as suitable for;

  • Patients over the age of 18.
    .
  • Patients who suffer from astigmatism – the cornea curves or flattens unevenly. Astigmatism disrupts focus of near and distant vision.
    .
  • Patients who are farsighted – hyperopia – eyeball is shorter than average or the cornea is too flat that light focuses behind the retina instead of focusing on it. This makes the near vision and sometimes the distant vision blurry..
    .
  • Patients who are nearsighted myopia – the eyeball is slightly longer than normal or when the cornea curves sharply. The light rays focus in front of the retina and blur distant vision. Objects that are closer.
    .
  • Patients who are healthy both mentally and physically.
    .
  • Both male and female patients who are at good health conditions.

.
LASEK SURGERY PROCEDURE

Lasek eye surgery in Antalya Turkey starts, as the surgeon will before apply anesthetic eye drops to eliminate any pain and a clip will be used to keep the eyelid open. In Lasek the epithelium or outer layer or the cornea is removed using finer blade trephine. The surgeon will cover the eye with an alcohol solution for around 30 seconds. The solution will loosen the edges of the epithelium. After the alcohol solution being removed from the eye the surgeon will lift the edge of the epithelial flap and fold it back which is similar to Lasik and then the surgeon will use an excimer laser to reshape the corneal tissue underneath. Then the epithelial flap will be placed back on the eye. A bandage contact lens will be put on the eye to allow the flap edges to heal. The patient will need to use eye drops a few weeks after the best lasek laser eye hospital surgery in Turkey to increase healing rate.

.
BEFORE LASEK

  • Makeup and hair accessories must not be worn.
    .
  • Other types of contact lenses must not be worn for at least three days prior to the surgery.
    .
  • Tests to measure the corneal thickness, refraction, corneal mapping, eye pressure and pupil dilation will be done before the surgery.
    .
  • Rigid gas permeable contact lenses should not be worn for three weeks before surgery.

.
AFTER LASEK

  • Patients will not be able to drive from 7-14 days after the surgery.
    .
  • Patients must take prescribed medication such as drops, correctly and on time.
    .
  • Irritation can occur in the eye for the first day or two.
    .
  • Patients may wear a special contact lens (bandage lens) that acts like a bandage for up to 4-7 days after surgery

.
RISK OF LASEK TREATMENTS

There is a slight possibility of risks to occur like in every surgery such as;

  • Temporary reduced vision.
  • Dry eyes.
  • Cloudy vision.
  • Allergy to anesthesia.
  • Eye infection.

.
DEFINITION OF LASEK

Anesthetic drops – drops given to numb to eye so the patient does not feel any discomfort during the surgery and being awake.

Epithelium – cells that help protect or enclose organs.

Cornea – transparent part of the eye covering the iris and pupil.

Trephine – instrument used to remove a disk of bone.

.
SECOND DAY

The surgery will take around 15 minutes to perform per eye. The surgery will be done using local anesthesia and once the surgery ends and the patient is feeling good, they can return to their settlement with someone accompanying.

.
THIRD DAY
